Welcome to Humble Brewer

I debated for quite some time about whether or not I should start a blog.  I must confess that I have been looking at how much fun my wife has been having blogging and have finally surrendered to the temptation.  I really hope to share thoughts on this site about the things that matter most to me.  These are Jesus, my family, and my hobbies.  There will be talk here about God and His wonderous ways, my family and their wonderous ways, and beer with its wonderous ways.

But we will have to see how this goes.  I firmly believe the internet has killed thinking on a lot of levels.

  • Sincerity has become the measure of truth, even though people can at times be sincerely wrong.
  • Wittiness has replaced logic with people spouting pithy one-liners to end discussions even when the logic of the one-liner is lacking.
  • TLDR has overcome structured thinking.  Attention spans are so short people can't read full paragraphs.  We prefer Twitter sized bites.  (TLDR means Too Long Don't Read)
  • Finally, people have abandoned the simple notion of giving some credibility to those who disagree with them.  When did we start to believe our position was the only one with merit?

In an ideal world I would love to have people post on this blog who disagree with me at times.  So long as the discussion was respectful and the points raised meaningful I believe everyone would leave the better for having the discussion.  Too often today debate sheds more heat than light and any value in the discussion is lost.  I once read a quote attributed to Aristotle that I believe applies here.  "It is the mark of an educated mind to entertain a thought without accepting it."

So metaphorically sit back, relax, have a home brew, and let's talk.
